knitting machine

headache

I am currently taking a knitwear design class but sadly we haven’t learned anything. Now we are expected to knit a garment of our own design on our knitting machines, but that’s quite hard to do when you have absolutely no idea how to plan increases or decreases in armholes and necklines and the like. I really want to start a knitwear company but this is severly getting my hopes down. The worst part is that I am paying an arm and a leg to do nothing. This class is so painful I truly feel like I should be paid to take it. Our teacher has a degree from FIT in knitwear design, so I just don’t understand.

Yesterday at work I choked on a hard candy and a customer had to give me the famed Heimlich Maneuver so I am taking today to rest and drink lots of smoothies.  I finally started knitting my new pair of slippers tonight while watching tv.  There is nothing on anymore, someday I think I will be forced to get cable since PBS doesn’t come in and there’s only so many “Search for the Next Pussycat Doll” reruns one can watch before going insane.  Off to bed.

Orange Phildar Sweater
I finished this Phildar sweater about a year ago, but just realized I never posted it. I used some Plymouth yarn, but I can’t remember what it’s called right now and I don’t feel like getting up to look it up. I look insane in this photo and am wearing pajama shorts. Don’t hold it against me.

scarf on jen
I finished my scarf for my knitwear design class. I had stalled on it becuase the weather was getting nice and the last thing I wanted to do was spend time on a scarf, but with the re-emergence of winter I’ll even get to wear it (sadly). I used Knitpicks Andean Silk on US 10 needles and I am loving the drape of this scarf…that and the giant hand pockets. Hmm…hand pockets, as opposed to? Hot Pockets?

kitchen copy

Once, about 5 years ago, I wanted to become an artist, well since I can remeber up until 5 years ago to be more exact. I have a BFA, emphasis in photograhy, but by my senior year, I knew that I wanted to do fashion design so two years later, back to school I went.

The last photo project I was planning would have been my piece de resistance…at least in my head. The idea cracks me up every time I think about it still. What happens to fast food resturants when they close? They turn into other businesses of course, but the hilarious part is that their architecture becomes an instantly recognizable failure and you have the Taco Bell Hair Salon next to my vet, the Pizza Hut Melting Pot on Roosevelt and Summit, the Wendy’s Payday Loans on Neil in Champaign and many many others. Ha ha ha hilarious!

Perhaps someday I will photograph these…or maybe I will just laugh at them to myself.

tired
After a long day at work, all I have energy for is knitting with my heating pad, some Goose Island Root Beer, and Sherlock Holmes Audio.

Tomorrow swatch shopping is in the cards…I’ll let you know how it goes.

dress

It’s big on me because it’s made for the dress form in class and also is made out of green cotton instead of muslin because I ran out of muslin. This green cotton may be cuter, but doesn’t sew so nice on the ol’ Sears Kenmore. More to come on this draping final project.

Tomorrow morning I register for classes and I’m very nervous because I forgot to get several classes cleared…wish me luck! Grading 1 is my biggest worry, only 12 spaces…could fill up quickly.

If you concert isn’t sold out, why can we not get tickets.  Some of us (luke) are even willing to pay the crazy sum of $135 a ticket.  Bjork, I really think you hate us, and it’s not just this incident that indicates this.  Remember when Luke and I were in Verona and we found out you were playing their ancient Italian crazy stone amphitheater two days after we headed over to Innsbrook?  What gives?  We love you Bjork, and yet…
