Last night I worked on my heating pad cover top and just as I was sewing on the last piece of the log cabin, I ran out of thread. Now that is on hold until I can get around to picking up more white thread. Seems a bit strange that I am out but I suppose it happens to the best of us.
Here is the top all layed out…

And here she is all sewn up…

The colors are a bit off on that one but it is night and even if it wasn’t I still get no daylight in most of this apartment.
Now I am off to go relax on the couch and get un-sick. I’m glad my classes were cancelled tonight so I can rest, but I have to say it would have been nice if it would have been without a 5 alarm fire.
Isn’t she cute? Figured I would do the layout on the computer to make sure I don’t mess up.

I worked super hard today so that I would be able to start cutting out the pieces of my Denise Schmidt Heating Pad Cover tonight, so I finished up my homework and went over to Kinkos. I hate Kinkos, they won’t copy my pattern to 400% like it says to do in the book. Obviously you are supposed to go to get a large copy made of this pattern, how else are you supposed to make it to size? It’s not like I can enlarge to 400% on my computer and then print it out on an 8.5×11″ piece of paper. Give me a break. I could enlarge it to 400% on my computer and then tile it and tape the pieces together but I have no idea how I am going to tape them all together and keep the correct legnths. Aren’t there provisions for making a copy of something you own? Aren’t you allowed to make one copy for personal use? What about making copies for a class? Why on earth would you give people scaled down patterns if they aren’t going to be able to get them enlarged to complete the project?
Here is the sock I have been working on. It is a Pricilla’s Dream Sock. I guess I will be working on it tonight instead of the cover. Blah.

This weekend I have done homework, gone out for breakfast twice, cheered for the marathon and done more homework.
Last weekend Luke and I went to Galena and toured Ulysses S. Grant’s home and walked around.

There are still a few hours left today so we’ll see if anything exciting happens. I’ll be sure to report.
Last night at about 2:30 a.m. I wrote a stellar piece about having my own project runway in my apartment yesterday, all day and all night. Then it was lost to the world. Probably for the best though eh? Yes.
I made an uber-cute dress, minus armhole facings, a collar, and buttons. It also needs a hem but since it is partially on the bias it needs to hang for at least 24 hours before that can happen. It was also the first time I attempted to match plaids and I have to say I did a darn good job for my first try. My new rule for matching plaids is to always cut one thickness at a time and never on the fold, always lay the piece out flat.
I have no photograph because it was turned in today in my patternmaking class. When I get it back perhaps I will post a quick photo.
Here, though, is a photo of a dress I finished over the weekend and am finally posting now. It is a Simplicity/Built by Wendy pattern. I really like the pattern minus the fact that no matter what I do, the clothes I make off of patterns is always at least 2-3 sizes too large. This I do not understand because the sizes go off of your measurements and I never lie. So I was a 12, made the 8 and it is still too large. Here she is.

Today I made the first of what I hope to be many pumpkin recipes, Ginger Pumpkin Bread from the October Food magazine. It was very tasty, made better by the fact that I made it exclusively in vintage Pyrex with the exception of a measuring glass made of modern day Pyrex.

I also made the Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce from the Freeze-It section of the same magazine, but it was too messy to break out the camera. It is now in the freezer waiting until I am too tired to make dinner.
I bought fabric for curtains today since it’s about 0 degrees out (only really it’s 40 which is still quite cold). I kind of want to make them flannel backed since my windows are about 6.5 feet high, but I’m afraid that might be weird/expensive. I will have to do some thinking on that point.
Isn’t my new tooth so cute? It’s uber-wonderful I know. It’s all thanks to M. Jeff who is the best at figuring this kind of thing out. He is also responsible for the website of the Jen Bekman Gallery, coincidentally almost the same name as mine. You may know them from their Hey Hot Shot competition.
Now that I have this magnificent new tooth, I will try to update it more faithfully. I have just finished a swatch for what may be the best (or worst) sweater in the world. We will have to see. I’ve never designed a sweater before and I probably ought to just stick with a plain one but of course I’ve got to go add cables and such. We’ll see how that goes.
Tomorrow I must go buy a new book. You go through a lot of books when it takes 40 min. on the el to get to your destination. I can’t dedide what to read next though, I feel as though I am very behind on my reading. I will try to work that out tomorrow at the bookstore, wish me luck.
It is pretty much impossible for the snaggle tooth to get any more boring than it is at the current moment. Partially due to me being to busy to do anything worth putting on here let alone put it on here and partially due to me not liking the layout and not knowing how to change it. Blah snaggle tooth is no good. To get those last photos a bit further down the page, this is what I have partially been up to.
Putting all my yarn which all happens to be fall colored into under the bed storage since there is no storage in my apartment.

Desperatly trying to figure out the tuck stitch. No matter what I do (I swear I am following the instructions exactly) I am increasing stitches. I don’t understand. I know how to make this stitch on a knitting machine but no for the needles.

Purchasing squash. The spaghetti was already eaten up and the butternut will be transformed into pasta sauce a la Martha Stewart Food Magazine.

Wearing a most beautiful Pucci scarf purchased for me by Luke the best in the world.

And knitting delicious lace swatches for my textiles class which have earned me a 100% on that project.

That is all. I just got internet on Monday so I will try to update my tooth more often.
